1. Tenerife disaster (1977)

The Tenerife disaster was the deadliest aviation accident in history, claiming the lives of 583 people. The accident occurred on March 27, 1977, when two Boeing 747s collided on the runway at Tenerife North Airport in the Canary Islands. The collision was caused by a combination of factors, including fog, miscommunication, and pilot error.

In the aftermath of the Tenerife disaster, new regulations were put in place to improve communication between pilots and air traffic controllers. These regulations included the requirement for pilots to use a standard phraseology when communicating with controllers, and the requirement for controllers to use clear and unambiguous language.

2. Swissair Flight 111 (1998)

Swissair Flight 111 was a scheduled international passenger flight from New York City to Geneva. On September 2, 1998, the flight crashed into the Atlantic Ocean shortly after takeoff, killing all 229 people on board. The cause of the crash was an in-flight fire that started in the aircraft's electrical system.

In the aftermath of the Swissair Flight 111 crash, new regulations were put in place to improve the safety of aircraft electrical systems. These regulations included the requirement for aircraft to have multiple redundant electrical systems, and the requirement for aircraft to be equipped with fire suppression systems.

3. Air France Flight 447 (2009)

Air France Flight 447 was a scheduled international passenger flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris. On June 1, 2009, the flight crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, killing all 228 people on board. The cause of the crash was a combination of factors, including pilot error, equipment failure, and weather conditions.

In the aftermath of the Air France Flight 447 crash, new regulations were put in place to improve the safety of aircraft flight control systems. These regulations included the requirement for aircraft to have multiple redundant flight control systems, and the requirement for pilots to receive more training on how to handle emergencies.

4. Asiana Airlines Flight 214 (2013)

Asiana Airlines Flight 214 was a scheduled international passenger flight from Seoul to San Francisco. On July 6, 2013, the flight crashed on landing at San Francisco International Airport, killing 3 people and injuring 182. The cause of the crash was pilot error.

In the aftermath of the Asiana Airlines Flight 214 crash, new regulations were put in place to improve the safety of aircraft landing procedures. These regulations included the requirement for pilots to use a standardized approach to landing, and the requirement for airports to have better signage and lighting.

5. Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (2014)

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was a scheduled international passenger flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. On March 8, 2014, the flight disappeared from radar screens, and has never been found. The cause of the disappearance is unknown.

In the aftermath of the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappearance, new regulations were put in place to improve the tracking of aircraft. These regulations included the requirement for aircraft to be equipped with tracking devices that can transmit their location in real time.

6. Lion Air Flight 610 (2018)

Lion Air Flight 610 was a scheduled domestic passenger flight from Jakarta to Pangkal Pinang. On October 29, 2018, the flight crashed into the Java Sea shortly after takeoff, killing all 189 people on board. The cause of the crash was a combination of factors, including design flaws in the aircraft and pilot error.

In the aftermath of the Lion Air Flight 610 crash, new regulations were put in place to improve the safety of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. These regulations included the requirement for the aircraft to be equipped with a new flight control system, and the requirement for pilots to receive more training on how to handle emergencies.

7. Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 (2019)

Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 was a scheduled international passenger flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi. On March 10, 2019, the flight crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all 157 people on board. The cause of the crash was the same design flaw in the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft that caused the Lion Air Flight 610 crash.

In the aftermath of the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crash, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft was grounded worldwide. New regulations were also put in place to improve the safety of the aircraft. These regulations included the requirement for the aircraft to be equipped with a new flight control system, and the requirement for pilots to receive more training on how to handle emergencies.
